An elderly couple in Larnaca has been injured in an explosion the authorities believe was caused by a gas leak.
Investigations into the exact cause of the explosion and resulting fire will continue on Wednesday morning.
Pantelis Michael, 91, was on Wednesday undergoing treatment at Nicosia General Hospital’s Burns’ Unit and his wife, Eftychia, 88, being treated for respiratory problems at Larnaca General Hospital.
Panetlis has suffered burns to 70% of his body.

Fire Services Press Spokesman Andreas Kettis told state radio the explosion occurred soon after 9pm on Tuesday.
It has been reported that Pantelis was in the kitchen of the couple’s ground-floor flat at the time and Eftychia in their bedroom.
The explosion and fire damaged cars parked by the six-storey building on Marcos Drakos Street, which was evacuated until the authorities could be sure other tenants were not in danger.
