A fire in Polis Chrysochous has been brought under control and the authorities remain on careful watch due to the blaze’s vicinity to a residential area. The fire was brought under control late on Friday afternoon as announced by the Cyprus Fire Department.
The fire broke out amongst a large clump of reeds and soon spread to wild brush and hay stacks in the vicinity, Fire Service Spokesman Andreas Kettis said.
Shortly before 5pm, the fire was under partial control. Kettis noted that fire Fire Service vehicles, one from the Games Service, and two fire-fighting aircraft had been sent to the area to battle the blaze.
A section of the Paphos to Polis Chrysochous road temporarily closed to traffic due to heavy smoke from the fire reopened soon afterwards.
