A fire in a Paphos workshop forced apartment building residents to evacuate late on Wednesday night.
The Paphos Fire Services announced at 11.05pm on Wednesday that they had received a report of a fire in a building next the Muslim cemetery in Akamantidos street. The fire had broken out on the ground floor radiator repair workshop of the building, destroying a number of radiators and other spare parts, while electrical fuse boxes were also damaged in by the blaze.
Residents living in apartments directly above the workshop, who were not able to use the building’s stairwell due to the density of the smoke, were evacuated by the Fire Services. The fire was contained and brought under control before spreading to neighbouring buildings.
Paphos CID officials and officers from Paphos police headquarters arrived on the scene and, following initial investigations, have kept the site under guard.
