The next 24 hours are considered to be critical for a Sovereign Base Area (SBA) police sergeant who was pulled from a flaming car in a field near Dasaki village this week.
The sergeant, who is said to be Greek Cypriot, is said to be in extremely critical condition and is being treated for burns for over 80% of his body at Nicosia General Hospital.
Bases spokesperson Sean Tully limited his statements to confirming the fact that a person had been found in a flaming car and that the Bases were unable to make any further comments.
Tully did not wish to comment on information which claimed that the injured sergeant and a colleague of his had been suspended from duty pending an internal investigation.
SBA police have not disclosed the events surrounding the fire.
