Firefighters and security personnel were scrambling on Friday after an escort vehicle belonging Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci caught fire.
The vehicle – said to be a Citroen – quickly became engulfed in flames on Friday afternoon soon after Akinci had left a ceremony. The car was part of a motorcade and the Turkish Cypriot leader was not inside the vehicle although Akinci’s private secretary and protection officer were said to have been inside when the fire ignited.
There have been no reports of any injuries and the flames were quickly brought under control.
