A Nicosia man has been remanded in custody on suspicion of setting a Makedonitissa kiosk alight because its owner told him off for drinking right outside the shop.
The 38-year-old was remanded in custody for eight days on Monday. He had asked for a psychiatric evaluation upon his arrest but was found to be of sound-enough mind to go to court.
The man is suspected of setting the kiosk alight at around 12.30am on Monday. A car with registration plates matching those of a vehicle owned by the suspect was seen driving away from the scene and he was arrested soon after.
According to the police, the suspect has verbally admitted to the offence, saying he had set the kiosk alight because, around one month ago, the owner had told him off for drinking alcohol while sitting outside the shop.
