A fire that had been spreading in the buffer zone close to the village of Potamia has been brought under control, the Cyprus Fire Services have confirmed.
Reports of the fire had come in at around 9.50pm on Wednesday in the buffer zone – after it had spread from the north. Firefighters had joined the emergency services from the UN to tackle the blaze which had also threatened to spread to the village of Lympia.
The fire reportedly destroyed two hectares of dry grass and wild shrubs in the buffer zone.
