A senior Cyprus Fire Services official says they are currently on the lookout for a serial arsonist who appears to have been deliberately trying to start fires in the Paphos area.
According to Fire Service Chief Marcos Tragkolas, a series of fires were recently being put out in the Stavrokonnou area of Paphos and all them had started in the morning and within the same radius. In Stavrokonnou alone, four fires have recently been put out.

“Someone or some people are setting these fires and we have to find them. The fact that there have not been any strong winds lately has thankfully not seen the fires quickly spread,” Tragkolas told reporters.
The Cyprus Fire Services, Cyprus Police and the Forestry Department have been constantly patrolling the area recently in a bid to both be on alert for a possible new fire and to catch the culprit or culprits.
“The four fires in Stavrokonnou cannot be a coincidence. They are the work of an arsonist. In the actual village, we have had three in June and one this week. Homes and lives have been endangered and we must catch this arsonist or arsonists.”
