A fire which broke out near the village of Kyvides in Limassol was running out of control on Sunday afternoon threatening the nearby village.
Around 19:45 the fire department spokesman Andreas Kettis said that “the fire is now under control”.
According to Andreas Kettis, the spokesman of the Cyprus Fire Department, the fire department was fighting to put out the fire with 6 vehicles, and an airplane of the Forestry Department and two helicopters.
The fire broke out around 16:00 on Sunday afternoon at a hard to reach area, which made the firemens’ task more difficult.
According to the fire department spokesman, no lives or houses were at risk at any moment. Kettis added that due to the high temperature and the winds blowing in the area, a small fire fighting force will remain in the area as a precaution measure.
Kettis said that the cause of the fire which burned a total of three hectares of wild vegetation and piles of rubbish, has yet to be determined.
